Examination Directions
CSci 555 / Exam Directions / Fall Semester
This is a hard test, but perfect scores are not expected. Some of the questions are more difficult than others. Points are allocated to each question according to the expected difficulty of the question relative to other questions. The points should serve as a rough guide for how long you will spend on each problem. Budget your time on the exam. Do not spend too much time on any question at the expense of the other questions.
In the questions that follow, there is in general no single unique answer. The questions are designed to see how you think, not how well you can agree with what the instructor might think. Justify your answer by referring to the systems discussed in the readings. Read each question carefully, some may be subtle. Some questions may be under specified; feel free to make assumptions in your answers. Assumptions should be noted in order that your reasoning can be followed. Assumptions which render the question trivial are to be avoided. Partial credit will be awarded for partially correct answers.
This test is open book and open note. Feel free to use any written sources in formulating your answers. All work, however, must be your own. Passing of notes or discussion during the examination period is expressly forbidden. We recommend that you read over all the questions before beginning to answer any question. We also suggest that you think carefully and organize your thoughts before beginning to write out answers.
Use your own paper for your answers. Print your name on each page you use. Print your name, student ID number, and e-mail address at the top of this page. Remote students indicate your remote site.
