Objective

The class will concentrate on distributed computer systems and the functions
of such systems. Important topics will include naming, security, remote
procedure call, networks, concurrency, transactions, parallel computing,
shared memory, message passing, and scale.

Mid-term 20%, final 20%, research paper 30%, reading reports 20%, quizzes
up to 10%, up to 10% bonus for class participation. Grades will not be
calculated on a curve.

Absence does not change the due date of an assignment. Missed exams will
receive a failing grade without an official university accepted and verified
excuse (e.g., medical). No make-up exams. All course
